I’m Elsie & This is My Story:

I was born in Idaho, where my family attended a little Mennonite church tucked out in the country. Some of my earliest memories are of learning about Jesus while falling in love with Yellowstone, horses, and the sweet smell of sagebrush after rain. Life felt simple and safe back then.

Everything changed when my family moved to northern Michigan and became involved in a cult. Deep down, I knew something wasn’t right, and I fought against it for a long time. But eventually, I gave in and followed the only world I knew. In the process, I lost friends, family, and so much of myself.

When frightening supernatural things began happening, I realized I had to leave. I ran for my life with little more than hope that God would somehow carry me through. For a season, I was homeless in a foreign country, trying to piece together who I was and whether freedom was even possible. By the grace of God, I found my way home—but life as I knew it was gone. Those experiences eventually became the heartbeat behind my novel, Eve’s Covering.

These days, faith and family are the center of my life. I’m Mom to some amazing grown kids and Mimi to some wonderful grandkids, with hopes for many more around the table someday. I studied creative writing at Ferris State University and later had the joy of teaching literature and composition while serving as a missionary in Ukraine with my husband, David.

I love stories, traveling, tacos, and anything purple. David and I live in northern Michigan, nestled in the woods. Our mischievous cavalier spaniel, Mr. Bingley, is always close by. I’m endlessly grateful that God can still write beautiful things out of broken chapters.
